The temperature is warming up and it is at long last patio season! That means it’s time to enjoy refreshing cocktails while unwinding from a busy day or stressful week. We love making big batch cocktails like a pitcher of these Moscow Mules, or Pear and Apple Sangria. Another of our favorite summer treats are these Strawberry Daiquiri Popsicles.

What is a Beer Margarita?

Beer margarita is a cocktail made with typical margarita ingredients and combined with a light beer of Mexican origin like Corona.

How do you make a Beer Margarita?

What kind of beer can be used in a Beer Margarita?

You can use any kind of  Mexican larger for this cocktail. The most commonly used is Corona. There are lots of other options to choose from though.

Some suggested brands include:

  • Corona Extra or Lite
  • Modelo Especial
  • Dos Equis Especial
  • Tecate Original or Lite
  • Sol Especial
  • Or another blonde light beer of your choosing

Do I have to use tequila for this recipe?

You will need to use a clear tequila (or tequila blanco) to make this a true cocktail. Because, the tequila is one of the main flavors in this cocktail I recommend looking for brand with a nice fruitiness to the flavor. Good does not necessarily mean expensive though. Below I’ve listed a few good tequilas in the low to mid price range.

Suggested tequilas:

  • Casamigos
  • Espolon Blanco
  • Cabo Wabo
  • Or my personal favorite Patron

My tips for this recipe:

How to salt the rim of your glass:

  1. Cut one lime into large wedges
  2. Pour salt into a shallow bowl or plate
  3. Rub the edge of the glass with one of the lime wedges
  4. Then dip the top of the glass into the salt twisting it around so the gains of salt stick to the glass

Can I make this in advance?

Yes! If you are making this advance combine all the ingredients together except the ice and place in the fridge to chill. If you add the ice too far in advance it will begin to melt and the margarita will be watered down and loose some of its flavor.

This party cocktail is always a hit with friends and family! The best part is that it’s so easy to make if you need to whip together a second or third pitcher it is easy peasy to do!

Be sure to have some delicious salty snacks on hand to enjoy with these drinks. We like to snack on these Sweet and Spicy Peanuts or a bowl of this amazing Beef Queso.

What can I serve with Beer Margaritas?

White Chicken Enchiladas

Chipotle Shrimp Tacos

Oven Baked Chicken Fajitas

Chimichurri Churri Flank Steak

Crunchwrap Supreme

Cheers Y’all!
